Tips for Choosing Outside Patio Furniture

Patio furniture comes in many different types. Choosing the right outside patio furniture can enhance your outside areas and make them an inviting place to be for relaxing, entertaining friends and even dining. Furniture that is designed for outdoor living comes in a wide variety of styles, materials and price ranges and when you are shopping for patio furniture, there are several things you should consider. First, Is your patio covered or open to the weather? Next you should decide on how many people you think will need seating on your patio and if you will do a lot of entertaining outdoors?

Outdoor furniture is made from many different materials including plastic, aluminum, wrought iron, wood and wicker. Plastic is most likely the inexpensive patio furniture choice and you find plastic tables and chairs in a range of sizes and colors. The best thing about plastic furniture is that it's cheap and can stand up to the elements but the bad thing is that it isn't the most durable or attractive material. It doesn't rust but it can warp and crack over time because it can be affected by very cold weather and hot sunshine. Weatherproof metal patio furniture may be a better choice. It is a bit more costly, but most people prefer the look of metal over plastic, plus, it should last longer and hold up better over time.

Wrought iron is likely to be the most expensive type of outdoor patio furniture you will look at but there are some advantages that may make it worth the extra cost. Although wrought iron may come with some form of weatherproofing it may need some general maintenance over the years to help discourage, remove or conceal any rust or discoloration. It is the heaviest and sturdiest outdoor furniture, and can last for many years when cared for properly.

Wicker patio furnituure is another popular choice because it is breezy and light but wicker can be affected by the elements so it is not the best choice for an unprotected outdoor area though you can purchase resin wicker patio furniture which is designed to be outside.

Weatherproofed wood can work for both covered and uncovered areas so teak patio furniture can be left out in the weather. Timber oudoors furniture does offer a distinctive, rustic look that looks more natural in your garden and looks great as lawn furniture.

You should follow the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance to ensure that your patio furniture lasts for years to come. Avoid using harsh cleansers when cleaning and cover your furniture to protect it against bad weather to keep your outside furniture in good condition. If your patio furniture is outside and uncovered and it has seat cushions, these should be removed and placed in a dry location to avoid them getting damp and uncomfortable to sit on.
